ACLU Article: Two Men Named Wes and the Challenge to Fix the Juvenile Justice System

New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof used his space in Sunday's paper to highlight a new book called The Other Wes Moore, which tells the story of two young men from the decaying, inner-city streets of Baltimore named Wes Moore. One went on to win a Rhodes scholarship in 2000 and now has a successful career and family, and this book. The "other" Wes Moore is currently serving a life prison sentence for the murder of an off-duty police officer. The "other" Wes Moore may have benefited from the Youth PROMISE Act. Read more.

Huffington Post Article: New study shows that gang violence among youth is increasing because of the current economy

As gang numbers rise, most Americans agree that youth violence is increasing because of the recession. Almost seven out of ten U.S. adults (67%) say that gang violence among youth is on the rise due to the current economic crisis, says a new World Vision survey. The poll, conducted by Harris Interactive*, also shows that 46 percent of adults believe that the main cause for gang violence among youth is "a lack of adult supervision."
